This is what the
Lord Almighty says, “Now hear these words, ‘Let your hands be strong so
that the temple my be built’… Zechariah 8:9
After the Lord had
finished disciplining the tribes of Israel and Judah, he restored them
by his great grace. They turned from their sin and back to him. Because
of this, they were prepared to do the Lord’s will, that is, to build
the temple. One interesting thing we can infer about this instruction
which God gives them is the fact that despite them being in God’s
grace, in order for any work to be accomplished the people must muster
their strength
Just because we have the blessing of the Lord in
respect to certain projects or missions, this does not necessarily mean
that all of the little details are forthcoming. We will still have to
continually put forth effort and work diligently in order to bring
about something that is pleasing in the Lord’s sight. It is not enough
to take just one step in faith, we must remember that the path of
righteousness and the path to success in any endeavor continues several
little steps as well.
Too often when we feel God giving us the
go-ahead, we jump headlong into something before truly and responsibly
planning it out. While it is important to actively step in faith when
witnessing and working for the kingdom of God, we must be responsible
and purposeful in all of our moves. Don’t allow your dreams of the
future to prevent you from taking the actions that God has called you
to take today.
Before we can accomplish anything we must
surrender ourselves to God. We must first allow God to work in our
hearts to clear away any sin that prevents us from truly knowing his
will. After that we must rely on his strength and guidance. In order
for any great work to be accomplished and to truly bring glory to God
we must be strong. We gain strength by continually seeking the Lord’s
will through prayer and petition and by continually searching
scriptures for insight.
Take this verse as one of
encouragement from the Lord. Walk in faith. Muster your strength and
increase your wisdom by seeking him first. Do this and your hands will
be strong. Once you have allowed God to help you develop and grow, you
will be strong. It is only after you have prepared will you be able to
build a work pleasing to the Lord. Allow God to make your hands strong
so that in whatever you do by faith, the end result will be a temple
where his glory may dwell.
Father,
You grant us with so
many blessings. Not only do you allow us to turn from sin, but you hand
chose us to do your work. What a blessing the responsibilities you
charge us with are! Help us Lord to muster our strength and to gain
wisdom from you. You are the master builder and we need you in every
endeavor. Help us to do things out of a good spirit and always with the
desire to be to produce something pleasing to you. Even the most
magnificent projects we design aren’t good enough to worship you, but
still we try Lord. You have charged each of us with several different
gifts and several different responsibilities and callings. Make us
strong so that we might answer your call and bring you the glory you
deserve, Amen.
